PostHeaderIcon Coby & Riley

As some of you may already know , we have a had a bit of a night mare in the past week or so! First of all Riley's breathing became really bad, he sounded like a squeaky toy. Then on the first day back downstairs after Christmas, Coby was accidently  bitten by one of the others on a main artery so we had to rush him to the vets as he lost a lot of blood.

Luckily the vet did a great job and he ended up with a stitch, the scary thing is we could have lost him!

We bought him home and he recovered well in the hospital cage.

The vet gave us some Baytril for both Riley and Coby, and we tried different ways to disguise the taste, in the end we had to give Riley his straight from the syringe and for Coby we mixed it with yoghurt and all sorts.

Riley seems to have a new lease of life after the course of Baytril and Coby has re-joined his brothers in the main cage now which is great :)

I'm so pleased that they are both alive and well!

PostHeaderIcon Our babies Clover & Lilly

As some of you may have seen on the forum, we have two beautiful babies called Clover who is an all silver black ratty and her sister Lilly who is a red eyed champagne ratty:)

They are both absolutely adorable and such sweet natured babies.

They fit in the palms of our hands, that's how tiny they are, and they love snuggling up together in hammocks.

Poppy has taken to them straight away and groomed them from the first day, which was great as we didn't have to go through the week of introduction period.

The babies jump on Poppy as if to say "Come on mum play with us" then we hear little squeaks to say "I'm too old, go and play with your sister" after being groomed, washed and powdered lol.

It's great to see them all getting on so well, and it's also nice for our Poppy to have friends after Rita passed away RIP Sweetie! Poppy seems a lot happier with friends in her cage:)

I'll keep you posted on their progress!

PostHeaderIcon The Boys

Well we have had our four boys: Milo , Coby, Riley & Rolski for nearly 3months now! Wow have they grown and developed different personalities :) We have seen Riley morph into a Siamese from a champagne hooded ratty, Milo roan into a silvery colour from the dark grey colour he was when we first got him, Rolski has grown so much and luurves his food Coby loves shoulder rides and outside time.

I can't believe how much they have all grown, and they are still only young.

They have been going a bit wild as we have new female babies, which I shall also be blogging about:)

We are enjoying watching them develop and grow and doing our best to handle them regularly as they are still a bit wary about being handled apart from Coby that is lol any opportunity he gets he's out and onto your shoulder.

I'll keep you posted on their progress so watch this space:)

PostHeaderIcon The Boys

As you know, we have had our boys for nearly three weeks now! They are all doing really well and have settled in their new home very comfortably, which is great.

They all have differrent personalities and it's great watching them grow every day.

We Introduced them to the girls so they know that they are there on the cage above theirs.

The girls weren't that bothered about them, but we do see them sniffing at the bars occasionally and the boys try and climb the cage when they are out.

Things are going great so far!

PostHeaderIcon New Cage for Rita & Poppy

After seeing the cage that Becky has for her lil darlings, which is the Abode, we decided to get one for our ferret Flumpy.

We loved it soooooooooo much that we have ordered another one for our girls.

I'm so excited and can't wait until it arrives as I've got a lot of ideas for it.

I'm sure they will love it as Flumpy loves his new Abode.

It's very spacious and great value for money. £58 is a great price for the size of the cage.

PostHeaderIcon New Cage Contents

Today was cage cleaning day, so we had a little run around in the living room while Mum and Dad sorted our cage out.

We always play up when it's time to go back into the cage as we love being out sooooooo much.

Wow Mum & Dad have really spoiled us this time, our cage looked amazing, it had a brand new colourful ladder, a net to climb on and a lovely fleece sleeve to snuggle up in, ooh and not forgetting our igloo.

There's also a fluffy slipper hanging up to snuggle inside.

We had lots to explore when we went back inside and all the excitement has tired us out now, so we are both cuddled up in our hammock, having a little rest, so that we can do it all over again!

Thanks Mum & Dad , we love our new set-up!

PostHeaderIcon My Igloo

Well, ever since Mum and Dad have bought us this amazing igloo, I have made it my new home ( I have claimed it).

I only come out when I'm hungry, thirsty or if I need a poo!

I know Mum and Dad get upset as they don't see much of me now, but I love it soooo much, it's so nice and cozy and I've taken all the bedding inside to make it comfy.

Mum and Dad will get a shock when they see the amount of food I've stored in here! It's great.

I'm trying to make the most of it as I know it will be taken out on cage cleaning day!

Hopefully I get another hiding place all to myself!

PostHeaderIcon Snuggle Time

Last night I had a lovely time snuggling up in Mummy's fluffy new pink dressing gown.

Oooh it was so lovely and cosy and warm, I just lay there inside the sleeve  and made myself at home after running around  exploring this big pink fluffiness. I hope I can do this again.

I also enjoyed running in and out of our new tube that Dad hung up in our cage, which leads to our new sputnik, where Mum has put a little stash of our food to encourage us to use it.

Ooh we are lucky ratties to have lots of lovely things in our cage to play and hide in.

PostHeaderIcon Where's poppy?

I decided to have a go at making a ratty cube with some left over fleece, I was very proud of  the end product as I am useless with a needle and thread. anyway, the ratties loved it and snuggled up together on the top and inside it.

The first thing I do every morning is check to see if if they are ok and to my horror I couldn't find Poppy anywhere, the door wasn't left open or Rita would have got out too . At this point I started to panic as Poppy did squeeze out of the bars from the first cage that we had. Then I looked in the cube again and didn't see her but saw a bulge at the bottom of the cube. the little rascal had only chewed through the first layer of the base and was fast asleep between the first and second layer lol. I was glad she didn't run off somewhere as she's so quick we would never have caught her.

PostHeaderIcon Pets At Home

On Monday me and Al went to Pets At  Home in Carlisle as that is the nearest store to us. Anyway I thought I'd pick up some goodies for the girls as I'm known for spoiling them.

I picked up a yellow sputnik ,  Red Rody Igloo and some yogurt and milk treats.

I saw a gorgeous Albino Dumbo rat which looked like a larger version of Poppy and a baby rat that looked just like Rita. Awwwwwwwww I just wanted to bring them back home with me.

I also saw a Jenny Ferplast 2009 cage which I really want and will eventually get when I have the money.

After leaving the store we went to another pet shop just to have a quick look and woohoooo I found just what I was looking for at half price! It was the Ferplast tubes for ferrets and rats for only £3 so I grabbed all 4 lol.

We set the cage up with the goodies and the girls love them. Poppy has claimed the igloo and takes all her stash of food in there and Rita likes the sputnik and tube.

I'll post some pics in the forum when I get them uploaded.

PostHeaderIcon Pea Fishing

Pea Fishing

As we all know the days are getting warmer, so why not treat your ratties to some refreshing fun! I tried sweetcorn fishing with Rita and Poppy and they absolutely loved it :)

All you need to do is add some cold water ( not too cold) into a shallow tray or a deep bowl, depending on how use to water your ratties are and put some sweetcorn or frozen peas inside and watch your ratties have fun fishing them out. This is also a good way to introduce your fur babies to water play and before you know it they will be diving lol:).

Give it a go and let me know what you think.
